Day3 - The Ceremony

There was a ceremony this morning to welcome our group into Guyana, but it started about an hour late, which seems to be the norm here. About 200 students were invited, they came around 9 but the festivities didn't start until past 10 so by the time things got going they were all looking extremely bored, and I don't blame them. A Calypso band played, made up of prison inmates, that was really awesome and two dance troupes that look like they had never practiced. The speeches were pretty mediocre except for Nancy our field director and Jessie Sue, my roommate, who said a thanks to everyone who came.

More cancelations today, which left me some free time to call my family and take a nap to catch up on my sleep. After lunch we had a presentation on the history of Guyana and the upcoming election that was presented by the dean of the nearby university that was rally interesting.

Dinner tonight was 3 different l\kinds of fish, trout, snapper, and king, in some excellent sauce served with baked plantain, sweet potato, and some type of biscuit. Excellent. Finished off the night with another trip tho the Green house to drink some more banks beer and play some pool.

Tomorrow is our last day in the city so I hope to get everything else that I need, but I am also really excited for the ferry ride and stay in Bartica.
