Day2 - Georgetown

Had a great presentation this morning from a woman named miss Baxter Dennis, followed by an incomprehensible talk buy a guy explaining to us the importance of record keeping. The most I gathered from him was that I should cross out mistakes and not use white out... exciting. Miss Dennis however has an amazing caribbean accent that I hope to be able to emulate eventually and she was a great speaker. She covered some of the challenges that we may face such as abuse, poverty, and incest and I think everyone really appreciated her candicy.

first trip into the city today. Georgetown was nicer than I expected and yet was very busy and everything I expected from previous visits in Mexico. There are a few really cool old churches and buildings, like the library, that really exemplify that wooden caribbean architecture. Cashed my first traveller's check of $100US and recieved 20000 Guyanese dollars in return all in 1000 dollar bills which amounted to a very large wad of cash. After the bank we went to the US embassy for a quick visit. Vince and I get to make another special trip into town on Friday to visit the Canadian Embassy which we are going to take full advantage of to explore a little more than we could today.

Back home our class was cancelled because the presenter couldn't show so we initiated a trip to the nearest restaurant, the Green House, to sample the local beer. You can get Carib here but Banks beer is the local brand and is better anyway. It was $200 for a beer, about a buck back home. Back home for some salt fish and fritters for dinner, excellent, a quick overview of some details about our insurance and again Vinnie and I promoted some bonding by breaking out a couple of bottles of Guyanese El Dorado rum we picked up on the way home from our previous trip to the stores.

It was a great day today I think everyone is feeling a lot more comfortable, and rested today, and we are all getting on really well.
