Friday, Dec 8th

Things have been pretty busy, or maybe the exact opposite at school for the last few weeks. I am not exactly sure how to explain it, I guess it is a frenzy of activity where nothing actually gets done. In a cliche; hurry up and wait. I have been madly trying to finish up tests and get kids to submit their work, only about half do, and of those half again of that is late. Kids don't show up for school and other teachers hold your students in their class because they haven't finished their own work. It is ridiculous. On top of that Guyana, like all third world countries, loves meaningless paperwork, which all has to be done in blue ink with 0 mistakes or the entire system will collapse, I guess.

Last weekend was Ruppununi Expo. It was supposed to be the weekend before that but they postponed it beause no one was ready. The expo was... strange, there was a ferris wheel and some other scary rides that were brought over from Brazil, and a few crafts, but not many. There was however a lot of drinking. SUPRISE, I wasn't expecting that one. It was actually quite a bit of fun though. I rode the ferris wheel and jumped on a trampoline, both of which seemed like luxuries out here.

Tonight is our staff party which people may or may not come too. then, tommorow I fly out to Georgetown for our conference and to meet up with the rest of the volunteers. After that it is off to Tobago for some diving and relaxing.

I will probably be out of contact for the rest of this month so...

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
